What is the idea behind Thinking Outside the Shelter?
We would like to see a shelter become a first choice as a resource for help with animals instead of a last stop. The amount of help we can offer and the lives we can save do not stop at the walls of our adoption centers. Think bigger. Much bigger.
We know these are tough economic times and many people who have never faced economic trials are facing them now. Foreclosures are at an all time high. You may be in a place that you think the only option open to you is to take your animal to a shelter. The goal of our Thinking Outside the Shelter program is to offer a way for someone who has encountered economic difficulty to be able to hold on to their animals through that time. This obviously benefits the animal, your family and the overburdened shelter system.
Our goal is to make life an option for animals in need and the people helping them. Even if we cannot physically take in an animal immediately (or at all) there are many ways that we can assist you in getting a good outcome whether this is your pet or an animal you have rescued. We view our relationship with the community as a partnership and we are committed to spending time, energy and resources to help the animals of our community.
Ways we can help if you have found yourself having to make a choice to give up your animal based on economic difficulty include providing animal food bank, supplies and even some micro grants for care.
Let’s talk about your situation and see if we can come up with a solution that keeps your family together. Contact us at 713-863-9835 or info@adoptfriends4life.org.
