Woobie Cat Bed Drive for Whiskerville Cats

Today through Sunday, January 15th

On January 3rd, 2012, officials in Texas City discovered that 200 cats were living in deplorable conditions at Whiskerville Animal Sanctuary (click here to read the news report).

As of today (January 10, 2012) the cats are being cared for at the La Porte Animal Shelter. Our Executive Director, Salise Shuttlesworth, has been in communication with Kim Schoolcraft, Animal Services Manager for Galveston County, regarding the cats and their greatest immediate needs. They have received plenty of donations of food, litter, litter boxes and cleaning supplies. Since there is a trial pending, none of the 200 cats can be adopted out or moved to other shelters until January 17th. If the Whiskerville shelter owner files a complaint, the cats will have to be held for another 10 days beyond that. When the cats are able to be released, we have offered to take in some of the cats and have specifically requested the cats who are least likely to be adopted (senior, mangy, medical issues, FIV+, etc).

Kim has told us that what she really needs right now is a soft, clean bed for each cat so Friends For Life is holding a WOOBIE CAT BED DRIVE! Friends For Life will be donating $500 to buy cat beds and need your help. With the $500 we are donating, we should be able to purchase about 60-90 beds, depending on the price. We still need at least 100 more. The types of cat beds we need are shown below. The cat bed on the left is currently on sale at Petco for $7.99. The cat beds on the right are currently on sale at PetSmart for $9.99.

2. Click on the button below to donate money so we can purchase the beds.
3. Purchase beds on your own and drop them off at our shelter (246 W. 19th Street, Houston) during regular business hours (12-6pm Tue.-Sat. or 12-5pm Sun.).
